2021.10.22 12:13 ovErIqHjMAHYu Engineering vs Management Masters
Hi folks, my wife wants to pursue a career in supply chain/logistics. She's not sure of exactly what job she wants, but would do best in a position where she can focus on a task or problem at hand instead of managing or coordinating people - she's a dedicated and thorough worker but she hates being responsible for people and is fluent in English but not comfortably so.
She's debating between a masters in supply chain management or a systems engineering masters with a concentration in supply chain management and production systems. We're in America and her bachelor's degree is in supply chain management and logistics from Thailand (and is equivalent to an American 4 year degree). We know experience is important, and right now she has minimal experience but is getting as much as she can.
Would either of those degrees be significantly more helpful in eventually landing such a position? We're woefully ignorant of the field in general, so your thoughts are greatly appreciated.

2021.10.22 12:13 Nakama_witnesser Why you should try out modern yugioh!
I grew up watching yugioh anime, Wouldn’t be here typing this long ass essay without the oldschool summon your summoned skull, blue eyes beatdown era but I can’t agree with people who say oldschool was better than modern yugioh. Cause I am having so much fun with modern and wish people wouldn’t miss the gem that they have now due to nostalgia.
Modern yugioh, not only would I say is great, but I actually prefer this over a lot of other games and some other formats.
Synchros, xyzs, links and yes even pendulums are the best inventions that happened to this game.
I’m just so sad to see people leave the game because of new mechanics they couldn’t accept because the game has improved and became more complex with each mechanic. The game is more toolboxy now. You don’t have to draw anything crazy, you always have options if you have a few monsters on field. More options means more thinking, more skill based gameplay. It’s like a tekken fighter that knows hundreds of different moves vs a fighter who knows only to spam a few broken moves. Whether to go into your synchro pool or not can create a dilemma and It’s so interesting to see players losing or winning due to the option they chose whereas a lot of oldschool games tend to be decided by whoever drew pot, graceful, raigeki, dark hole wins.
And each extra mechanic brought something interesting to the table.
Synchros made people learn to add numbers.
Xyz uses materials as a resource, it just feels so natural and nice to use a physical card as a resource for your effects and it’s nice having a restriction on effects other than once per turn or once per duel.
Links made card positioning matter.
Even pendulums are a good idea. A card being both a spell and a monster makes it very versatile. Monsters being on top of the ED does feel weird and it isn’t as naturally easy to learn as the other mechanics but using the pen mons on top of the ED as a resource is, again, skill based. Not to mention pendulums solves the issue of useless tribute monsters by allowing you to SS them easily. Swagkage pendulum summoning red eyes in MBT’s tournament was so sick!
Hand traps are absolutely fantastic addition to the game. People who say yugioh is solitaire have no excuse to not play hand traps. Hand traps allow you to interact with your opponent starting from turn 1 and all the handtraps are really balanced cards. Most of them are one for one removal and some become viable during certain formats only. You can bait your opponent’s negates by playing less valuable cards first. If I’m going to list well designed cards in yugioh, there will be lots of handtraps.
And I just love column cards. It is so fun to see your opponents slam their cards on the imperm column.
GOAT is overrated Recommending GOATs to newcomers is pretty cool but acting like it’s the end and be all of yugioh is a little embarrassing. Especially considering how much luck based the format is.
I went first, delinquent duod my opponent, set MOF, then my opponent attacks MOF during their turn, I flip MOF, get duo and duos my opponent again. How is this fair and balanced? Not to mention BLS is pretty broken and games are decided whether you drew him, had materials for him. Pot and Graceful are such broken cards that they are banned to this day. In some ways having them at 1 is worse because it just makes the format more luck based rather than seeing it all the time.
I am not denying the goods in the format. Obviously Scapegoats is a really verstile offensive and defensive tool. Parshap’s countering scapegoats, Kaycoo countering the chaos strategy is cool. And battle traps, god how much I miss when battle traps were good. There is nothing better than punishing your opponent for being aggressive.
But it just doesn’t have the option tool of the ED, I feel like I’m missing limb when I’m playing GOAT. GOAT is easy to get into precisely because it has way less options and much more forgiving to a newbie because of the luck aspect and the cards have way less text on them too. But if you really want to challenge yourself you gotta try out modern yugioh or at least edison(Seriously edison is dope, would watch MBT summon absolute zero again).
When I watch/play a card game, I want to see the player's efforts, skils both in deckbuilding and in actual gameplay. I want to see the epic mindgames that go into playing around cards like Gorz, imperm, nibiru, ra sphere mode.
This is precisely why games like chess are so beloved despite not having any new sets, supports released for years. The amount of options each player have is massive, the amount of information each player has is also massive, if you lose in chess, you only have yourself to blame. And I want myself to be blamed for my own successes and failures because that is how I grow.
But goddamn chess is so boring, seriously why can’t we have deckbuilding and synchro summoning in chess? Even if your game is a masterpiece, I’ll still get bored of playing it eventually if I move Aleister the invoker to E4 every single game. In fact, I did get bored, played chess in my middle school a lot, got bored, now I’m playing yugioh.

2021.10.22 12:13 Apart_Telephone_779 Chapters 39-40 of Fires of Heaven are hilarious.
Much like Mat fully comes into his own in the middle of The Dragon Reborn (swatting Gawyn and Galad, escaping Tar Valon, gambling his way to riches, etc)… the same can be said of Nyneave in The Fires or Heaven.
While she’s always been prickly and tugging her braid and all that, the chapters in and around 40 (The Wheel Weaves) when Nyneave meets Uno, Ragan, The Prophet, and then Galad all in rapid succession are some of the best Nyneave POV chapters in the books.
Her trepidation about the exposing dress she has on, followed by her flaunting of that exposing dress when she thinks Messama (sp?) is telling her how to dress, followed by her self directed anger because she thinks Galad is so hot and she doesn’t know if she should trust him (“why can’t the man be ugly?”), followed by her scooping up a group of 15 Shienarans for protection (“light, how many hams can 15 men eat in one day?”) followed by her encounter with Elyane and Brigitte who she poleaxes with her story of a very busy hour or so (uno, ragan, prophet, Galad)… is all written so joyfully I just wanted to call it out.
We all know what a stubborn woman she can be, but her strength of character, internal humor and self deprecation, and her willingness to learn and adapt despite a core unwillingness to bend to anyone or anything are all so readily on display.
Bonus moments are Ragan unwilling to walk right next to her (hiding behind Uno) because she has such a sharp tongue, an early-ish hint at just how badass Galad has become with a sword (his dismissal of Uno and Ragan when encountering her), our first view of just how nutcase The Prophet has become, and so much much more.
It’s hard to understand how the same author who wrote several lengthy books about not much at all in the late series could have been the guy who had SO much happen to a small group of characters in just a few short chapters
I love it.
